Nicholai entered the rifle range. The targets varied in different area's for sniper rifles, shotguns and carbines. Nicholai spent 20 rounds of his M41A in the carbine area. He was saticfied with his performance. Then he went to the sniper rifle range. Even though he was using an M41A, he'd customized it with a scope to use it like a sniper rifle. He tested it. His performance was just as good as with the normal carbine range.
"Excellent." He said out loud. He preffered the weapons he'd been originally trained with, but this was saticfying. He continued practicing on both ranges. |

*Phil walked into the empty range and turned on the LED ammo counter on his Pulse Rifle. He fired a single shot at the bullseye. Miss. Second shot. Sqaure on target. He continued to do this for half an hour or so, switching to burst fire, and ripping the target to shreds, with over half in the center.*

......Walking into the range he was surprised by how advanced it was. Holographic targets, simulated enemies, it was a far cry from the Colony of Tartarus and it's running man cut outs. He was in the rifle part of the range; this is where he needed to be, his skills with his side arms both revolver and shotgun needed no training at the moment and unarmed combat he was a natural with.
However, he was not a great shot with the pulse rifle to put it mildly, he had only used it twice before. Both times in a planetary range before he came aboard. He needed to maintain a greater accuracy. Windsor was a spray and pray merchant with guns he had little experience with, he hoped to change this. He had fought Xenos before on his homeworld; men weren't scary anymore, although even he knew it was imperative that he not underestimate them. Grabbing a laser Pulse rifle he punched the holographic target button and switched to 'armed assailant'. The forms of holographic terrorists popped up, he looked down the sights, aim and squeeze, the first few went down easily enough but as they started coming up faster his aim slipped slightly needing more rounds. After 2 minutes and numerous terrorists members later his counter hit zero as another terrorist popped up. He cursed as the red light came on and a LED lit up the range indicator 'DEAD'. He read the accuracy counter '59%' He sighed. "Oh Well, getting there." Windsor was a reactions shooter and had not been drilled in the use of rifles on taught how to fire them. A half smile crossed his face as the voice of his old Sergeant back on Tartarus came to him: "Try to aim and you won't need so much!" Laughing out loud to himself he left the range and headed for the messhall, he didn't feel like sleeping and the gym was not what he needed. He would probably stop in at his bunk and locker to grab a teabag on his way through. With a satisfied nod he moved toward the barracks* |

Jeice led the way through the facility, eventually stopping in the Rifle Range. Racks of various weaponry, ranging from the standard M41A Pulse Rifle to the massive M56 "Smartgun" were lined up along the walls.
Jenna gravitated towards a M41A, pulling it off the rack and slamming a clip home. The ammo counter zipped from "0" to "95" in a heartbeat. The rifle was heavy in her hands, but felt right after all of the drills and training she had been through since joining the Corps. She walked over to the range, rifle in hand. "Ooh...holographic simulators. Nice" she thought to herself, setting the first target to "Xenomorph". She pulled the virtual reality helmet over her head, and hit the "Start button". Jenna couldn't see anything at first; just the empty range. Then, faster than she could blink, a dark red shape shot out from the ceiling, slashing at Jenna as the indicator read "DEAD". Jumping backwards in surprise, Jenna fell backwards onto her butt, looking in fear downrange, in case the horrible creature would return to rip her a new one. |

Jeice had followed suit and switched on the VR. She had gotten in faster then he had and had already died once. Jeice crept up to her in the darkness of the VR world, " They like to use the walls and ceilings," he said, " be careful." A shape rushed along the wall towards them and Jeice opened up on it with a few three round bursts. Most of the bursts hit the bug in the torso, but a few ripped through it's head, dropping it to the ground. He helped Jenna up and surveyed the range, swearing that he would not be taken by surprise.

Re: Rifle Range | ||

Jan came into the range to see a female soldier on her ass and a male soldier helping her up. He smiled at them, there must be some sort of chemestry there, or not. He walked over and picked up one of the combersome M56A2 smart gun's. He saw the male fire at the ceiling as a holographic xenomorph jumped at him. 'So that's what a 'bug' looks like.' He thought to himself.
He loaded up the blank firing ammo because the M56 used to big a round for live fire. He did not want to join with them because the M56 would dominate the two M41's. He powered up the smart gun. It immediately became lighter, but not too light. He liked the hulk of the weapon. He turned on the xenomorph program. The weapon immediately picked up the movement of the creature. Jan fired with 'full auto' on. After the creature was dead he switched to five round burst. This would be an interesting weapon to work with, it was much nicer than the older version of the M56 given to the German army. ------------------

Re: Rifle Range | ||

Reid walked quietly into the Rifle range to see it already in use by three other Marines: one of them being Schmitt and two new faces, most likely part of the new string of transfers. He gave a polite nod to the taller man, noticing he was praticing with the M56A2 Smartgun. Walking over to the weapons rack, he checked out an M41A Pulse Rifle and two clips of ammunition.
Before walking into a vacant booth he stood back and silently watched them tackle the range against the holographic targets. The pair were doing well...that is until one of the Marines, a Lance Corporal, fell over in surprise when her holgraphic foe attacked. Her partner faired better, successfully destroying the target with his Pulse Rifle. "And that's why I usually stick to range silhouettes," he said in a friendly, joking manner and stuck out his hand. "Welcome to Omega Company. I'm Corporal Marcus Reid, First Squad Leader of Second Platoon." -=========================================================- ![]() |

Jeice helped Jenna to her feet. A strange sensation filled Jenna's stomach as he pulled her up, but she ignored it, even though her cheeks tinged red. As Jeice helped Jenna up, she noticed another man walking up slowly, a warm smile plastered across his face.
"And that's why I usually stick to range silhoutettes" he laughed. It was a laugh without malice, and Jenna instantly relaxed. This man seemed like he knew what he was talking about, as Jenna noticed a certain hardness in his eyes, the look of someone who had survived battles and walked away, alive. "I'm Corporal Marcus Reid, First Squad Leader of Second Platoon" "Lance Corporal Jenna Cohen-I'm really not sure of my position in this unit just yet. I'm kinda new...just got in from Camp Lejune this morning" she explained. |

" Pfc. Jeice Sandros,good to meet you." He heard this as he entered.
Walking over towards the gun rack he got hold of a pulse rifle and a few mags, placing one in each pocket and clipping the thrid one home. As he walked forward he said out loud: "Windsor Lockwood, Private loser class, First Platoon, Reid's squad, pleasure." With that he pushed two buttons and closed his VR headset, a loud spray of bullets erupted down the range and a laugh tinged with the mad edge erupted. "Get some" BANG BANG BANG "Get sum". He pushed the button and lifted up the visor. Looking at the new two marines he decided to impart some wisdom: "You two are 1st platoon probably but i figure i'll give you a tip anyways..." he gave a warm smile "When you see the Bug, keep this mantra in your head: Aim, Track, Fire. If you fire at the bug the minute you see it, you invariably miss it, plus your main objective is to slow it down, don't go for one shot kills to the head, invariably you miss and the thing is on you. But hey, who am i to tell higher ups?" he shurgged and then walked to the rack and deposited the pulse rifle and mags and swapped it for a M37A2 Combat Auto-Shotgun and fitting a strange device down the barrel that went over the muzzle. |

Reid shook their hand respectively and noticed Private Lockwood enter and took a little time on the range. After Lockwood's friendly lecture on dealing with Xenos, he walked off to switch weapons.
"I'll keep it in mind Lockwood," Reid commented to him, then turned back to the two Marines. "He may not look it, but he's seen more than his fair share of combat against these things." Reid entered in a booth adjacent Sandros and Cohen's and inserted a magazine. Before starting, he switched the simulation to the standard range target to gauge his accuracy. "I understand you're both anxious to get into a permanent assignment in First Platoon, but don't worry. The officers and NCO's will have that taken care of soon." He pulled the charging handle and thumbed the selector switch off of SAFE and onto BURST. With a methodical pace, he took aim and shot a tight grouping into a target that came up. After finishing off one clip, he looked into the computer readout: ninety percent. He nodded approvingly and qued up another target farther downrange. Jenna nodded.
"A little. My old ship, the Patna, was ambushed over Reach. It was my final mission before my tour was up. We had to repel boarders" Jenna explained, tentatively staring down range again. No wonder the company had detonated two colonies to stop the Xenomorphs; they were deadly creatures. |

Re: Rifle Range | ||

Reid nodded as Cohen finished answering his question. Before he could reply and for anyone to do anything else, the intercom crackled and came to life. Moments later Second Lieutenant Foley's voice blared inside the Rifle Range.
"Attention all personnel attention onboard! Gunnery Sergeant Schiefer, Staff Sergeant Graves, Sergeant Archer, and Sergeant Ivanov; assemble in full gear in the hanger in 20 minutes! Bring your pistols! All personnel, standby for further briefing!" As the intercom snapped off, Reid knew something big was going down. Foley had only called for the senior NCO's to suit up and arm themselves with pistols while everyone else is put on standby for further orders. This could either mean one of two things: another exercise in teamwork...or a mission. He turned to address the rest of the Marines inside the Rifle Range. "All right Marines, it looks like playtime's over," Reid announced. "Although Lieutenant Foley has ordered only the senior NCO's to to the Hanger for now, it doesn't mean we won't be joining them at all. Secure these training weapons and report to your respective Squad Bays. If the order comes over the intercom, be ready to gear up in the Armory and assemble on the ready line. Move out!" Reid punched in a series of keys and killed the range training program in his booth. Picking up the other magazine, he returned his weapon and ammunition back in its original place. After making sure everything in the Rifle Range was squared away, Reid exited the Rifle Range. -=========================================================- ![]() |

Jenna nodded at Reid's retreating backside and shut down the simulation program. Tucking her practice M41A back on the long weapon racks, she whispered to herself,
"It's game time" She exited the training hall at a crisp clip, hoping Jeice would follow her; she was still the new girl on the block here. |

Entering the shooting range angerly, paying little attention to any of the marines exiting, and the marines that may or may not still be in the range, he checks out an M41A Pulse Rifle, and enters one of the private booths. Setting the holographic targets to random, he aims and starts gunning down targets. One guy charging with a knife, one with a grenade, ready to throw, and another with a handgun already aimed. For some targets, Hoban didn't release his hold on the trigger, the simulated violence not doing much to calm him, but he couldn't stand another minute around Abrams, not without hitting him again, and he didn't want anyone thinking he was a psycho.

Re: Rifle Range | ||

*Wade entered the rifle range. There was only one other marine here, and he looked pissed. She steered clear of him. Let him vent. She grabbed a rifle from the rack, locked the action open and made sure it was clear, and started loading magazines. She went over to the firing line, inserted a mag, chambered a round, and took aim at the holo targets.
The pilots rarely, if ever, had to use a rifle in actual combat, but she could shoot pretty well and wanted to stay that way. And it gave her something to do. The intercom had sounded a minute before. She was a little worried about what could be going on, but reasoned that it couldn't be too urgent. The voice had sounded perfectly calm. Still, she kept glancing back at the door occasionally, as if an imaginary intruder was going to come charging through, as ludicrous an idea as that was. At least she wasn't alone here, and she was armed. She tried to concentrate more on her shooting. At least she had something to think about...* |

The random selection finally cycles to Alien, and for a minute, Hoban finds himself firing at nothing. Pausing and lowering the borrowed rifle, the hologram suddenly drops in to his view and swings its tail right for him. The buzzer sounds, informing Hoban that he is dead. The surprise of the alien makes him realize how silly he is being.
Laughing, he resets the target specification to Alien and gives it another try. Firing at the Alien as is shot across the ceiling, he failed to bring it down, only grazing it as it brought its sharp, lethal claws down on him. He had never seen this type of creature before, and its intelligence (simulated at least) confused him. He considers the idea that Abrams was correct in calling him useless. Maybe he was going to get marine's killed. Maybe he would die too... |

Re: Rifle Range | ||

Looking down at the gun, Hoban understood that he wasn't doing any good here. Maybe if he'd played things a little cooler, kept his mouth shut like he always did, Young would be next to him right now, shooting at the hologram aliens too. Hoban laughed, the thought of the drunk marine, who he hadn't had the chance to meet sober, shooting at aliens with a rifle or handgun cracked him up. Another horrifying thought donned on him. He had just made a completely opposite image of himself in front of ALL of the superiors he could possibly have on the Omaha. They had all ended up being there, and they had all ended up seeing him hit the Master Gunnery Sergeant. His life was over. Someone would kick him out for sure. Falling to his knees and picking up the spent casings, Hoban started dumping them into his upturned tank top. He couldn't believe it. His first day, HIS FIRST DAY! He'd gone and done it now...the only guy that could stop him from being thrown out now was likely the one he'd just punched. Paying no attention to the other two marines, Hoban couldn't help but cry as he picked up his shells. The fact that he was crying, he realized, was proof enough he didn't have what it takes. He muttered to himself, "I shouldn't be here...what was I thinking?"
